Amos 8:8-10

⁸Because of this, won’t the land quake^(A)
and all who dwell in it mourn?^(B)
All of it will rise like the Nile;^(C)
it will surge and then subside
like the Nile in Egypt.^(D)

⁹And in that day—
this is the declaration of the Lord God—
I will make the sun go down at noon;^(E)
I will darken the land in the daytime.^(F)
¹⁰I will turn your feasts into mourning^(G)
and all your songs into lamentation;^(H)
I will cause everyone^[a] to wear sackcloth^(I)
and every head to be shaved.^(J)
I will make that grief
like mourning for an only son^(K)
and its outcome like a bitter day.
